A single spark can destroy thousands of homes.

We’re working to change that.

But we can’t do this alone.
We need your support to keep this work going.

Fire safety is missing where it is needed most.

The system is failing those most at risk.
It’s not just a gap, it’s a pattern.

From crowded settlements to social housing blocks, fires take more lives each year than all other disasters combined. They cause life altering disabilities, displace families, and deepen cycles of poverty and inequality.

Kindling is a global nonprofit uniting people, systems, and science to confront this crisis too often dismissed as inevitable.

Our Approach

We’re advancing fire safety through research, learning, advocacy, and practice — building knowledge that communities and decision-makers urgently need today.

Because fire safety is shaped by many systems, no single tool or actor can solve it. Progress happens when evidence, practice, and lived experience connect.

Collective Action

What happens when actors from different parts of the system come together to create change?

In Cape Town, residents work with us to map fire hazards and design community-led fire risk reduction plans.

In the United States, we partner with housing advocates and firefighters to uncover fire as a justice issue in under-resourced urban housing.

There is no silver bullet to solve the fire problem, but collective efforts can save lives by linking evidence, policy, and lived experience across homes, communities, and cities.

About Kindling

Kindling was founded on a simple belief: fire safety is a human right.

Our team works on the frontlines of a growing global crisis. Every breakthrough depends on collaboration and on the continued support of those who believe safety should be for everyone.

Our Global Learning Network

Real progress happens when knowledge moves freely.

Kindling connects practitioners, researchers, and decision-makers through a global learning network that turns evidence into practical solutions.

Together, we’re closing the gap between science and the realities of life in high-risk communities.
